They returned to their more pop-punk roots with 's Half Way There. Hailing from Essex, Busted was formed in by longtime friends Matt Willis vocals, guitars, keyboards and James Bourne vocals, bass.

After some lineup changes, Suffolk-born Charlie Simpson vocals, guitars, drums joined and the band was solidified. In , they debuted with the playful, eponymously titled Busted, an album that found the trio straddling the line between cheeky blink -style punk and melodic, guitar-based songcraft. Initially slow to start, the album eventually reached number two on the U.

In March of that year the Quartet signed a contract with a professional management and a month later they changed the name in Busted. Not much later, however, Doyle and McPhail left the band. They were briefly replaced by Tom Fletcher , but 24 hours later this was replaced by Charlie Simpson. Fletcher still remained involved in the band and wrote along with Bourne some songs that appeared on both albums. After he had founded his own band McFly they went along as supporting act on tour of the United Kingdom The band had now reached its end occupation and went looking for a record deal.

In they had been offered a contract by Simon Cowell juror at Pop Idol , but they had refused. In , they signed a contract with Universal Island , without drummer. They made use of guest drummers during performances and studio sessions.

Starting from August , it seriously. The band appeared on the cover of Smash Hits , a British popmagazine, and were the first rock band that appeared on the cover before they had released a single.

Next, the debut album, " Busted ", released. It scored mediocre and not higher than initially knew the 30th place. The second single, " Year " was released in January and reached the seventh place in Netherlands [1 ] , the fifth in Belgium [1 ] and the second in the United Kingdom.

The third single, " You Said No " was released in the spring of and knew [2 ] in Belgium and the United Kingdom to reach the 1st place, making Guinness Hit Singles declared Busted the first band that their three debut singles got in the top 3 in reverse order.

You Said No, originally released as " Crash and Burn ", came in 27th place not higher than the Netherlands. The album was re-released with some new songs, and scored significantly better this time, with more than 1. Meanwhile, the band was already working on the second album A Present for Everyone "and was a fourth single released from the debut album:" sleeping with the Light On ". This did not come within in the Dutch or Belgian charts, but managed to climb to number 3 in the UK charts.

Before the new album was released, it was one single launched, called " Hurra Hurra Die Schule Brennt " "Hurrah hurrah the School fire. This was a cover, the original text was in German. The verses in English were rewritten, the chorus remained German language.

This single was only released in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The band then launched his new album "A Present for Everyone", with the first single " Crashed the Wedding ". Crashed The Wedding came in Belgium does not go beyond the Flemish Netherlands and in the Tipparade 28th position while in England came at number 1.

Also the second album would go well over 1 million units. James: "It's weird because there's this new side to the music business. What's happening? What is trendy? What's happening right now? And I feel like, as soon as we forgot about that, we found a place with this album. What is terrible to me is audience research and market research, all that stuff should be illegal man, it should be about instinct.

What's wrong with that? Charlie: "There are algorithms now for music. Whoever's writing Little Mix songs or whatever are chasing algorithms. Now, it's just like how many Instagram followers you have. That doesn't mean anything. I worry that when we talk about this stuff, we end up sounding like old men. But there's lots of positives to the way the industry is moving, accessibility for new artists is fantastic because people can build their own fan bases.

James: "Look, hits are great but there's got to be room for more than that, if you really want to get interesting again. When is the next Bohemian Rhapsody going to be written? When is somebody going to write a song like that? It wouldn't get played on radio in a million years. How do those outside-the-box hits happen in the world now? Charlie: "We went back to basics, man, we got a couple of acoustic guitars in the place where we wrote the first album.

We went back to the same building we moved into as year-olds and sat there and wrote songs. It was literally that simple and once we had that plan, it took about three weeks. Music can take you to a place and time with the first strike of a chord. Harnessing that power but making a record that doesn't sound dated, creating a fresh approach, that was the aim of this record.

It has a nostalgic feeling but is very much a modern record. That thing James: "The whole band could burn tomorrow and every one of us would be fine because there are so many other things we can do to make money.

One thing that the last two years has proven, is that there is a reason why it took off the first time and why it can be a success this time.
